The meaning behind REALTOR® designationsThe Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR®) designation is held by more than 9,000 REALTORS® who work as buyer's agents. A buyer's agent represents the buyer in a real estate transaction for a fee, just as a seller's agent is hired to obtain the price and sale terms sought by the seller. A buyer's agent is hired to get the best possible price and terms for the buyer. Buyer agency assistance also may include helping the buyer obtain legal assistance to review proposed contracts or structural inspectors to examine the property. ABR® designees complete a two-day intensive course that covers the legalities and issues surrounding representation as a buyer's agent, and must pass a written exam upon completion of the course. ABRM designees must successfully complete the ABRM course, the 2-day ABR course (see above), certify that they have overseen at least 25 real estate transactions that involved a buyer agent or had more than 2 years of experience in the oversight of buyer representatives and be a member in good standing with the Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council and the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) ALC's are recognized as an experts in land brokerage transactions areas of five speciailized types: (1) farms and ranches; (2) undeveloped tracts of land; (3) transitional land; (4) subdivision and wholesaling of lots; and (5) site selection and assemblage of land parcels.
